ISO 22301 – Business Continuity Management System – BCMS
What is ISO 22301 standard?
ISO 22301: 2012 specifies the requirements for the business continuity management system. The ISO 22301 system is aimed at ensuring readiness for continuity of work in emergency situations on production lines and in logistics, natural disasters and IT malfunctions. The BMCP business continuity management system includes:
• BCP Business Continuity Planning – continuity planning for critical business processes
• DRP Disaster Recovery Planning – planning how to act in the event of failure, disaster or other negative events.
The requirements set out in ISO 22301 are general and apply to all organizations or parts thereof, regardless of the type, size and nature of the organization. The scope of these requirements depends on the organization’s working environment and complexity.
Advantages of having ISO 22301 certificate
• Ensuring the business continuity in case of failure, natural disasters and random factors,
• meeting legal requirements and industry guidelines for financial institutions and energy suppliers,
• Protection of company resources – increasing the internal security,
• Identification of business risks and their minimization,
• Minimizing the risk of not delivering the product, not performing the service,
• Increasing the brand value.
Integration of BCMS with other standards:
The reason for implementing the risk management system may be the ease of integration with the quality management system according to ISO 9001 and/or environmental management system ISO 14001 or OHS management system ISO 45001 or information security management system ISO/IEC 27001. The structure of standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO/IEC 27001 is very similar and some requirements are convergent, which significantly reduces implementation costs. It is worth considering the implementation of ISO 22301, because apart from all the other advantages of the system, it becomes more and more popular and is an important standard among companies that are significant in the market.
